Girls’ rugby is flourishing at Wimbledon RFC with Belinda Moore appointed Director of Girls Rugby and already bringing new energy to grow and develop the girls’ section even further.
We host regular taster days and always welcome new players – from ages 5 to 18 - to come and try rugby with us. We have over 90 girls’ playing across minis and youth.
From the 2022-23 season we have four all-girls groups:

Wimbledon RFC set up girls’ rugby in 2015-16, with two of its Women’s team, Kirsty Openshaw and Luciana Recaman, getting the section off the ground.
At the start, a handful of girls turned up to the sessions with all ages mucking in together, but the girls’ section has gone from strength to strength to strength, with five all-girls groups from the 2022-23 season and nearly 100 strong tally of girls playing from U5 to U18. Our very first girls have now graduated from the Youth section but rugby still plays a key part in their lives university or by joining the Wimbledon Women’s team. We also have a great track record in girls accessing the elite pathways via County, Centre of Excellence and specialist Sixth forms courses at Hartpury, Loughborough and Henley.
Stef d’Anna, Chair of Wimbledon RFC adds, “The girls’ section is a hugely important and growing part of our club and we are committed to the development of every player, giving them the platform to be the very best they can be. Our focus is on driving excellence at every level of coaching.”
