Wimbledon got back to winning ways with a five try/five league point home win over Brighton RFC last Saturday. The first quarter of the game was not Wimbledon’s finest with errors and unforced penalties allowing the visitors field position and eventually the first try of the match.

However following that score the home side dominated territory and possession which saw three tries by forwards Suvwe Obano, Jack Cooke and Tony Pellow giving Wimbledon a half time 17-5 lead. Strong defence in the second half continued to frustrate Brighton who’s penalty count rose as the half progressed. Excellent ball retention in the final third by Wimbledon saw replacement backrower, Andrew Fadera, returning from recent injury, saw him crash over for Wimbledon’s bonus point try. Ten minutes later the final Wimbledon score was from flanker Tom Williams making it a 31-5 scoreline. Brighton continued to fight hard and were in no mood to capitulate. Two well taken tries got them close to a losing bonus point but some excellent defending with the home team down to 13 players prevented any more points being scored.

Our finishing in the final third of the pitch was much more clinical, whilst our defence constantly frustrated the visitors. The players now need to build on this ahead of two very testing away matches.’
