Wimbledon Whizz: Obano's Fifty-Metre Dash Dazzles in Horsham Thriller!

Wimbledon Whizz: Obano's Fifty-Metre Dash Dazzles in Horsham Thriller!

Marc Bertrand10 Mar - 17:13

In a game full of ups, downs, and spilled balls, Wimbledon's dazzling plays and tenacious spirit secure a thrilling victory at Horsham.

Wimbeldon got back to winning ways with a bonus point away victory at Horsham. The lead fluctuated throughout the game and the noisy home crowd saw some terrific rugby. Horsham started well and raced into a ten point lead before a well taken try by debutant Oscar Norman and a pushover put Wimbledon in a 14-10 lead. A similar close range try for the home team restored their lead. The Wimbledon attack however now really began to get into gear. Some barnstorming runs by No8 Suvwe Obano and centre George Brosch gave Wimbledon a lot of go forward possession and this resulted in tries for lock Ed Ashcroft and a second one for Olly Thomas, resulting in a 17-26 half time score. The second half began as the first ended , this time with hooker Tony pellow finishing off an excellent driving maul. Three minutes later a spilled ball picked up by Obano saw him break and run a full fifty metres to score under the posts.

Wimbledon had a golden chance to finish off Horsham but an awful forward pass saw the try go begging. The score had not really reflected how well the hoem team had played and their determination saw them reduce the score firstly to 22-36 and then with a touchline conversion to 29-39. By this point Wimbledon had lost three front row players to injury-the curse of the 3G pitches- and were down to fourteen men and uncontested scrums. An excellent kick off by Brosch saw Wimbledon keep Horsham deep in their own half who then committed a penalty which fly half Olly Latto converted to ensure victory for the visitors by 29-39.

Steve Hill Wimbledon Director of Rugby commented; ‘ We played some terrific attacking rugby today and scored some cracking tries. Horsham are a good side and we saw that any loss of concentration would allow them back into the game which happened. I was really pleased how we managed the last ten minutes with those injuries. The very tough challenge for next week will be to not allow the opposition the chance to gain a win. ‘
